Studying a Filmmaker Responsibly
A major filmmaker should not be reduced to reputation, awards or a single famous film. This course studies biography, filmography, context, method, influence, reception, archives and the limits of canon formation.
A plural corpus should include pioneers, women filmmakers, diasporic filmmakers, modernists, regional voices, popular-industry figures and contemporary generations. The goal is not to replace one fixed canon with another, but to make the selection transparent and debatable.
Lesson goal
Construct a filmmaker corpus that balances regions, eras, genders, diasporas, forms and industries.
